Grazing Education and Mentorship for Pennsylvania

In this episode we’re talking with Annie Bashore-Starbard about the art of grazing goats. Annie touches base on fencing, foraging, silvopasture, and the art of cheese making.

The book we touched on is called The Dairy Goat Handbook by Ann Starbard, and it can be found online in many places, but here is a link to the book on Amazon’s Website.

Here is also some information on the tour that I touched upon in the beginning of the podcast:

Managing Equine and Livestock Pastures to Improve Soil Health Through Adaptive Grazing and Diverse Cover

This tour features hands-on activities with equine and cattle pastures. Producers will leave with an understanding of paddock fencing/watering system components, with in-depth discussion about field practices and evaluation of cover crop mixes to look at rooting structure and soil health indicators.

The tour will focus on:
Equine Management, where the benefits of improved pasture methods, sacrifice areas and housing for horses on limited acreage will be discussed.
Adaptive cattle grazing management, where tall grass or high density grazing and the use of diverse cover crops can transform mediocre fields into highly productive ones.
Soil health principles for both cropping and livestock operations through a Rainfall Simulator demonstration and discussion on cover crops.
